Voices, not hits

Ranked list by Samira Haddad · 16 items · 0 likes

I rank on the instrument itself: range, control, tone and how it carries a language. I added a few I sing along to in other tongues.

1. Aretha Franklin Person

Her gospel training shows on every note, even the pop ones.

2. Whitney Houston Person

The 1991 Super Bowl anthem is a perfect vocal take.

3. Freddie Mercury Person
4. Frank Sinatra Person
5. Ella Fitzgerald Person

Her scat on Mack the Knife when she forgot the lyrics is a masterclass.

6. Billie Holiday Person
7. Maria Callas Person

She turned opera into drama in a way I still study.

8. Stevie Wonder Person
9. Nina Simone Person
10. Luciano Pavarotti Person
11. Umm Kulthum Person
12. Fairuz Person

Her voice is how a lot of Lebanon wakes up in the morning.

13. Marvin Gaye Person
14. Sam Cooke Person
15. Édith Piaf Person
16. Beyoncé Person
